Since its founding in 1969 by the French Directors’ Guild, the Directors’ Fortnight has served as a vital and boldly independent counter program to the Cannes Film Festival. This year, the Directors’ Fortnight is taking it on the road for the first time, presenting locally curated selections of its 2024 program with director Julien Rejl in person.

The Fortnight Extended is presented by the Quinzaine des cinéastes, MUBI, Villa Albertine, Acropolis Cinema, and the Museum of the Moving Image. Passes for admission to all seven screenings at the Culver Theater can be purchased here.

About the program:

In this conversation with India Donaldson and Tyler Taormina, whose films Good One and Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point screened in this year’s Directors’ Fortnight, the up-and-coming filmmakers will discuss their experiences at Cannes and how they’re learning to navigate the festival circuit with Fortnight director Julien Rejl.  Free admission. No ticket required.

TRT: 60 min

"In its lived-in quality and gathering churn, Good One is a dream of an indie, from the craft in every frame to the humor, epiphanies and mysteries that gird its portraiture." —Robert Abele, The Los Angeles Times

"Tyler Taormina‘s delightful stocking-stuffer Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point is as alive to the domesticated magic of holiday tradition as any Nat King Cole seasonal classic." —Jessica Kiang, Variety

"Good One is a reminder that there are always smart, interesting films being released, if you’re willing to look beyond the obvious. As it turns out, looking beyond the obvious is something that the writer-director India Donaldson has a real knack for." —Justin Chang, NPR
