In the  shadows of the bright lights of Las Vegas, it's last call for a beloved  dive bar known as the Roaring 20s. That's the premise, at least; the  reality is as unreal as the world the regulars are escaping from. Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets is a mosaic of disparate lives, teetering between dignity and  debauchery, reckoning with the past as they face an uncertain future,  and singing as their ship goes down.

A beautifully empathetic work of art.

- Alissa Wilkinson, VOX

A bit like Joycean prose, the camera in Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets wants to fill in every inch and void, until it is the world.

- Ela Bittencourt, MUBI Notebook

One of the best movies of Sundance. Funny and sad and also much more 'real' than plenty of documentaries that play by the rules.

- A.A. Dowd, The A.V. Club

A brilliant,  boozy hangout movie... a bold filmmaking experiment from two of the  most intriguing directors working in non-fiction today.

- Eric Kohn, Indiewire

With films like Tchoupitoulas and Western, the Rosses have built an oeuvre on the principle of in-between cinema that interrogates filmmaking forms, and Bloody Nose continues and heightens this project.

- Robert Koehler, Cinema Scope
